September 2022 Recap

Hello lovely people of SASE!

Welcome to the first SASE Blog, a new once-per-month blog where we will recap some of the events from the previous month or so! Today we’ll be reviewing some of the events from a great September (and a bit of August!) filled with exciting events to start off the year.

SASE members perform at AASA 2022

AASA 2022

We started off with a bang at AASA 2022 where we held our first ever UF SASE dance with the help of our wonderful choreographer, Ploy Ellifritt. That, along with a phenomenal promotional video by our historian, Tony Gupta, helped to spread the word about SASE and made sure that we made a strong impact at this AASA. Below is our AASA 2022 video with our promotional video and our member performances!

Our First Fall GBM

A little over a week after AASA, we held our first GBM of the semester, and we were blown away by how many of you joined us. We loved meeting each and every one of our members at the GBM, both old and new, and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. At the GBM, we introduced our board and introduced our professional development series with career showcase information. Thank you to everyone for coming out, and we hope to see everyone who joined us (and more) at our future events!

Career Showcase Preparation

The theme of professional events continued throughout September, with our historian Tony pumping out great professional headshots for our members. If you didn’t get one already, don’t fret! We’ll be doing another round of headshots in the spring before the spring career showcase. The resume + interview workshop week was also a great success, and we wish everyone success in their searches for an internship or full-time offer within the next months. Thanks to our advancement chair, Brian Chen, for organizing these professional advancement events.

We ended off September with a Career Showcase week that was unfortunately cut short, but that didn’t stop us from hosting a great information session and Meet & Greet with Procter and Gamble. Thanks to our external vice president, Taise Miyazumi, for organizing these fun events. We hope everyone who attended got to learn more about a potential career with P&G, and our recruiters said that they enjoyed meeting everyone as well!

Social & Service Event

With all these professional events, though, we didn’t forget to kick back and enjoy some time with our members as well as give back to our community. The “You’re KILN it” social was a relaxing way for some of our members to express their artistic side, and we hope that everyone enjoyed it. Thanks to our social chair, Bailey Robinson, for organizing this fun event. We also had a fantastic service event at Dreamers Garden, learning how to properly tend a garden and enjoying some fresh air. Thanks so much to Maria at Dreamers Garden for hosting and our service chair, Kelly Dheng, for organizing this event. If you missed out on this event, be on the lookout for more service and social events in the coming weeks!

SASE takes on UF intramural volleyball

Sports

Our intramural sports are going very strong as well, and we hope everyone is enjoying some fun and healthy competition. Thanks to our sports coordinator, Alan Wang, for his continued work in organizing all of our sports teams and events.

Hurricane Ian

As the month wrapped up, the last few days, including Career Showcase, were canceled due to Hurricane Ian, and while it didn’t end up hitting us very badly, there were some major parts of Florida that felt the pain of the hurricane. Our deepest sympathies go out to those who were impacted back home, and we hope that everyone and their families are able to get through this unscathed.

Wrap-up

With that being said, overall we had a terrific September, and we couldn’t have had such a great time without YOU, our wonderful members. Thank you all once again, and we hope to see you soon for some exciting October events!
