Hello everyone!

Welcome back to our monthly blog series. October was quite a busy month here at SASE so here’s a recap of everything that went down!

SASE National Convention

SASE at the 2022 National Convention

Our first big event, of course, was the SASE National Convention. Held from October 6th-8th in Atlanta, GA, this event was a great opportunity for our SASE members to flex some of the career fair, interview, and networking muscles we gained through our GBMs and workshops live at the event. Throughout these three days, NC held many professional development events such as company workshops, professional resume reviews, and networking hospitality suits, culminating with the biggest Asian career fair in the entire United States. Many of our members were able to secure internships through NC, so to all of them, congratulations!

SASE explores Atlanta after the SASE National Convention

We didn’t forget to have fun in the midst of all the professional events, however, and we made sure to visit staple Atlanta attractions such as the College Football Hall of Fame, World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium, and many other local spots. We had a great time in Atlanta, but if you weren’t able to make it this year, don’t fret. SASE NC 2023 will also be held in Atlanta, so keep that in the back of your mind if you’re on the internship/job hunt next fall!

Thank you so much to our NC committee for ensuring our trip to NC was a success!

Mentor-Mentee Week

Mentors and mentees get to know each other at the GBM#2 aftersocial

Right on the heels of NC was our M&M week, one of our most important events of the entire semester. M&M week started off with GBM #2: Spooky SASE(d)In where we talked about all things networking and using your network to your advantage.

Shortly after the GBM was our mentor-mentee reveal which took place at the Reitz North Lawn and then transitioned to Paris Banh Mi/Bento. Shoutout to Paris Banh Mi for staying open almost 2 hours later than their official closing time for us! In the following days, we also had the Mentor-Mentee game night and the M&M Krishna lunch social, and these events really allowed our mentors and mentees to get to know each other and forge lasting connections between our members.

Thank you so much to our IVP, Julia, for organizing a wonderful M&M week for our members, and we hope you all enjoy your new mentors and mentees!

Technical Workshop #1 + HEALxSASE Social

Members tune into SASE’s GBM

After an exam-heavy week, we jumped right back into our Technical Workshop #1 where we learned how to build a personal website from scratch with a live coding session presented by our technical chairs. We learned how to use fundamental technologies such as React, HTML, and CSS to design our very own website tailored the way we like. Having a personal website can be very beneficial as a visual representation of our technical skills, so thank you so much to our technical chairs, Tam and Sharika, for organizing this workshop!

Our collaborative halloween social with HEAL took place the day after Tech Workshop #1, where we were able to catch up with our great friends over at HEAL and revel in the Halloween spirit, decorating cookies and enjoying the Halloween ambiance as we watched the movie “Corpse Bride”. This event was a great way for us to unwind and socialize (or study) in the company of friends and provided a refreshing change of pace from the SASE-specific events we had held thus far. Thank you so much to our social chair, Bailey, as well as the social team over at HEAL for being able to coordinate this lovely event for us!

Paintball Social

SASE plays paintball at Rockycreek

We finished off October with a bang (quite literally!) as SASE headed over to Rockycreek Paintball to have some fun pelting each other in an all-out war of paint. This event was a great way for our members to let off some steam and truly enjoy combat on the paint battlefield, and the fervor of battle brought our members much closer together. Thank you so much to our social chair, Bailey, for coordinating this fun and exhilarating event for our members.

Conclusion

October was a great month here at SASE overall, and we are so happy that you, our members, were able to share many of these treasured memories with us. Thank you so much to our members for coming out to our events, and thank you as well to our board for working so hard to create events and opportunities that our members can enjoy and benefit from.

As the semester winds down, we hope you keep coming out to SASE events and enjoying everything we have to offer. And as always, if you ever are in need of assistance or simply need someone to talk to, please reach out! We are here for you. Thank you so much for reading our October blog, and stay tuned for our final blog of the semester!

Your Secretary,

Meer Mahfuz
